    Walker Percy is one of the greatest recent American authors and, unfortunately, one of the least read and known of the great American authors I am very happy to see this recently published collection of essays on the political elements in Percy s fiction and non fiction largely, semiotic works and I hope that it reflects an enduring perhaps increasing interest in Percy The various assembled essays each discuss a different aspect of Percy s thought in relation to political philosophy and each contributes something interesting to the conversation It would have been interesting to add to this discussion a chapter or two on other Southern authors I think here of Faulkner specifically , and perhaps African American authors Richard Wright comes to mind as possessing great potential as a point of comparison in contrast comparison with Percy Some are mentioned, of course, but an extended discussion may have provided a bit depth to the ways in which Percy is both ex...
