Visit the locations in the novelYou had me at the title A woman travels around France in search of the perfect croissant and other food of course There s recipes, talks about food, good tips of places to visit, things to see, tips for cyclists and just a general love of travel and France across each and every page.I read this on a kindle and there wasn t any photos or map in the book so I hope there is when it s printed as they are desperately needed for a book such as this It s visual and the writing draws you along on that bike alongside her, but without the aches and pains she must have had on such a long journey The countryside they travel through, the places the visit Oh, I could wax lyrical about this for years The author comes across as your friend, your ideal travel companion and breathes fresh air into the usual travelogue and guides In fact this book is many things a diary, an autobiography, a cook book and travel guide all in one. This book will make you eat Be aware that you will be heading out to your local bakery as soon as you start reading I do love a croissant...

A memoir to feed some memoriesLike Felicity Cloake I spent many childhood holidays in France with my parents, though 30 years earlier and without tents Our twin bibles were the Guide des Relais Routiers and Le Guide Michelin I was taught French by French grannies armed only with Le Journal de Mickey I ate Le Menu Touristique 10F potage ou p t maisonette steack salade, fromage ou dessert so many times I went off steak for years I loved it all so much I later settled for a French partner and went back many times Then, decades on, Felicity and Eddy the bike set of on a gastronomic Tour de France They visit many of the places I have been, she eats many of the things I have eaten They have adventures It s all in some ways so similar to the French experience I knew in the 60s and of course so very different Felicity is very much her own woman with her own agenda, and a capacity for athletic cycling I can only envy One of the things I loved about the book is that she admits to the sometimes base, sometimes trivial motives that go into decisions and cho...

It is a well written, entertaining romp Like a breezy fun holiday, it certainly does not try to be a definitive experience of either cycling, France or food though her writing on the food is it par excellence, and probably the only bit I feel fit to talk about as I know nothing of cycling and France is a big country The only big criticism I have is that I wished the writer expounded a bit both the people she encountered and her friendships in than a few moments At times her friends and some of the locals started blurring into each other, and whilst do not have to go too personal for this fun tome, it would have brought a certain reality, though...
